Limassol Chamber launches Innovation and Technology Vice-Presidency and Committee
As part of its mission to cater to the needs of the Limassol Business Community, the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) is pleased to announce the creation of the Innovation and Technology Vice-Presidency and Committee. This initiative follows the recent statutory amendments of 2024, which introduced the relevant Vice-Presidency to enhance the Chamber's strategic direction and the new Committee will complement the existing Committees of the Chamber.
Moving Forward in an Expanding Landscape
Following the exponential growth of the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) section in the Limassol area in the last few years, the Board of LCCI has decided that it needed to take steps to include companies involved in this field in its workings and deliberations and to help advance synergies between traditional industries with those operating in this promising section. Moreover, as part of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce, which is the Governments’ economic advisor, LCCI is seeking to listen and learn what the issues and challenges facing the ICT section are to be able to promote solutions to the relevant government bodies.
Bringing People Together
The targets of this is Committee would be to further integrate the ICT section within the existing business and economic environment of Limassol and to break down perceived boundaries between traditional and new industries promoting coherence within the local business ecosystem by bringing together business leaders from all sections of the economy. Furthermore, it will seek to codify the issues and challenges faced by the sector, in co-operation with other stakeholders and to propose and promote solutions to decision-making bodies. Finally, it will seek through international co-operation to promote Limassol as a regional business hub in the EMEA area.
Rising to New Challenges
As the sector has very rapidly evolved within the last few years with the inflow of a multitude of businesses working internationally and the relocation of thousands of employees within the Limassol metropolitan area, many challenges have arisen including generally the integration of companies and employees to the existing socio-economic environment and more specifically issues of schooling, housing and traffic management, among others. These issues have been central within the LCCI Board discussions and with the input of the ICT section will be more specifically addressed in a holistic manner.
Bringing in new Vision and Ideas
The Committee had its inaugural meeting on Thursday 27 March 2025 in the presence of LCCI President Mr. Andreas Tsouloftas and will be chaired by LCCI Board Vice –President Mr. Demosthenes Mavrellis. The initial members of the Committee, experts in their respective fields, represent a cross-section of different segments of the ICT and Fintech industries. Their collective experience ensures a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges and opportunities within these rapidly evolving sectors.
