Elicos Charalambous: Limassol has the credentials to become a hub of innovation and entrepreneurship

Limassol is a driving force of the Cypriot economy, with trade playing a leading role in its development, stated the Vice President of Trade of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI), Mr. Elicos Charalambous, in an interview with “Entrepreneurial Limassol”. He emphasized that the city benefits from its strategic location, its Port, Marina, and strong international connections. However, he stressed that in order to maintain these advantages, it is crucial to continue adapting to global economic conditions and strengthening infrastructure for sustainable development.

According to the Vice President of Trade of LCCI, the main challenges for entrepreneurs in this sector include intense competition, rising operational costs, fluctuations in global supply chains, and ever-changing consumer purchasing behavior. He also pointed out that adaptation to new technologies and the need for digital transformation are key success factors.

Mr. Charalambous highlighted that the Limassol Chamber actively supports businesses in their transition to the digital era through educational seminars, consulting services, and collaborations with specialized organizations. "We provide information on available European and national funding opportunities while also promoting e-commerce solutions and the automation of business processes," he added.

Regarding LCCI's initiatives to support commercial enterprises, he mentioned that the organization develops programs aimed at enhancing entrepreneurship, networking with international markets, education, and skills development. Additionally, the city's Chamber of Commerce collaborates with universities and research centers to foster innovation while supporting startups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through specialized advisory services.

The Vice President of Trade emphasized that the promotion of Cypriot products is a priority for LCCI. He noted that the organization collaborates with international trade chambers, organizes trade missions, and participates in global exhibitions. At the same time, it facilitates the creation of business partnerships with foreign stakeholders, contributing to the outward expansion of local businesses.

Regarding sectors with growth potential in Limassol, Mr. Elicos Charalambous pointed out that industries such as shipping, technology, green energy, education, and medical tourism present significant prospects for further development. He underscored that Limassol provides the ideal environment to attract investments and emerge as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.

To maintain Limassol as a leading business and commercial center, coordinated action is required, according to Mr. Charalambous. He added that LCCI is working towards this goal by improving infrastructure, promoting investments, strengthening human resources, and enhancing international collaborations. Furthermore, he emphasized that supporting startups and adopting innovative technologies will further boost the city's competitiveness.

As evident from the above, for the Vice President of Trade at LCCI, the primary priorities focus on strengthening the competitiveness of commercial enterprises, improving Limassol’s trade infrastructure, and attracting new investments. At the same time, Mr. Elicos Charalambous places emphasis on digital transformation, supporting business expansion into foreign markets, and shaping a favorable business environment through strategic collaborations with both public and private sector entities.
