The Limassol and Cyprus Chambers of Commerce
& Industry commend the work of post-secondary
technical and professional training centres. This was the message of Limassol
Chamber President Costas Galatariotis in an address given at the launch of a new
course of study by the Limassol Post-Secondary Technical and Professional
Training Centre.
Headed by the well-known businesswoman and author Lina Ellina, the new ’Shipping Supply Administrator’’ course aspires to provide
knowledge and skills pertaining to the whole logistics chain and enable those
completing it to end up with profitable jobs in the near future.
Addressing the event, which was hosted at the Limassol Chamber premises, Mr. Galatariotis referred to the support that the Chamber has always extended to vocational training, pointing out that the Post-Secondary Technical and Professional Training Centres are institutions that identify
the needs of the Cyprus labour market and try to respond to them. He noted,
moreover, that even in the past when unemployment in Cyprus was very low, there
were occasional shortages of certain skills which often left employers with no option but seek to fill
vacancies with personnel from abroad. Today, with Cyprus facing double-digit
unemployment, the Limassol Chamber President continued, having those
qualifications and skills that are actually required by the labour market is a
must.
Also addressing the event were the Ministry of Education’s Head of Post-Secondary Technical and Professional Training Centres, Elias Markatzis, Limassol Head Nicos Nicolaou, the Vice President of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Dieter Rohdenburg and the General Manager of the Cyprus Shipping Agents Association, Lefteris Kouzapas. The new course was presented by Lina Ellina while the event also included brief presentations of two success stories by graduates of Post-Secondary Technical and Professional Training Centres who, thanks to their newly acquired skills, have succeeded in their bid for profitable employment.
