Melco, the company behind City of Dreams Mediterranean, Europe’s first integrated casino resort, has employed 250 recruitments so far and counting, while the response to the first career fair, which took place on 16th and 17th of March 2018 at LCCI, was very successful.
Victoria Michaelidou, VP Human Resources of the project in Cyprus, tells "Entrepreneurial Limassol" that Melco spoke to 324 potential candidates during these two days for various positions, while more than 100 people were offered jobs. "Overall we’ve completed recruitment for more than 250 positions for the casino openings" Michaelidou says, emphasizing that the interest in casino employment is high, as the company has received about 1,500 applications, as a result from various actions.
Simultaneously, Melco continues seeking for dealers, cashiers, and people at the reception (hosts/hostesess). As part of its recruitment activity, Melco is constantly creating awareness as a lot of individuals are not aware of the type of work (shift 24/7 environment) or for the whole organization. "As these jobs and the industry is new to Cypriots, some of the candidates may be reluctant", she said, adding that constantly providing information about the industry and the benefits one can expect coming in to a casino position.
The process and criteria
Everyone who’s been offered a role is being asked to submit a number of relevant documentation and then they are being given a training commencement date in view of the Limassol casino opening in the summer. Asked about the criteria for selecting the stakeholders, Melco's Human Resources Director in Cyprus stresses: "Our hiring philosophy is all about the right attitude, potential and image that a candidate portrays and from there on we provide training to ensure success".
At the same time, she also points out that candidates working in a casino position should be at least 21 years of age. Recently, the Company announced the first 500 job opportunities for the Cyprus Project for a range of positions including Dealers, Slot Attendants, Cashiers, Finance and Casino Operators.
