The Limassol Chamber's actions during the Cyprus Presidency

With the completion of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union during the first half of 2026, the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) actively contributed to the Presidency's programme by organising two events under its auspices, while also participating in and attending events organised by other organisations.

The first event took place on 4 March 2026 in the form of a Gala Dinner under the theme "Europe's Economy and Competitiveness in a Changing Global Arena: Cyprus and Greece's Strategic Roles." The event brought together representatives from the political, business and diplomatic communities. It featured a panel discussion with Harris Georgiades, Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign and European Affairs and former Minister of Finance; Margaritis Schinas, former Vice-President of the European Commission; Natasa Pilides, CEO of eWise Cyprus Ltd and former Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry; and Ugne Buraciene, Group CEO of payabl. The evening provided an excellent opportunity for networking and the exchange of views, while highlighting the strategic role of Cyprus and Greece in strengthening Europe's competitiveness.

The second event was held on 22 May 2026 in Limassol, in cooperation with the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), under the title "EU Meets Limassol: Towards a More Sustainable Blue Economy." The event was organised as part of the European CMMI–MaRITeC-X project, through which CMMI was established. LCCI participates in the project as a partner and during the event, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CMMI.

The keynote speaker was Costas Kadis, European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, while Apostolos Tzitzikostas, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, delivered an online welcome address. This was followed by a panel discussion featuring Costas Kadis, Captain Eugen-Henning Adami, Chairman of the Cyprus Foundation for the Sea (CyFoS), and Anna Pittalis, President of WISTA Cyprus and Commercial Director of Intergaz Ltd, moderated by Zacharias Siokouros, CEO of CMMI. The discussion highlighted the importance of innovation, sustainable development and the blue economy.

Through these two events, the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry promoted dialogue and cooperation between businesses, institutions and European stakeholders, supporting the priorities and the central message of the Cyprus Presidency: " An Autonomous Union. Open to the World."

With the conclusion of the Cyprus Presidency, Ireland now takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Chamber will continue to monitor European developments and support initiatives that benefit the business community of the city and district of Limassol.
