LCCI – CMMI event under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU

A high-level event organised by the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) was successfully held in Limassol on Friday, 22 May 2026. Titled “EU Meets Limassol: Towards a More Sustainable Blue Economy”, the event took place under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.

The event was held within the framework of the European project CMMI–MaRITeC-X, through which CMMI was established, with the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry participating as a partner. The project is co-funded with a total budget of €30 million by the European Union and the Republic of Cyprus and aims to establish a Centre of Excellence in Marine and Maritime Research, Innovation and Technology.

Among the distinguished guests were representatives of the business community, with a strong presence from the shipping, transport, and tourism sectors, as well as members of the diplomatic corps, reaffirming the institutional role of the Limassol Chamber as a key pillar representing Limassol’s business community.

A particularly important moment of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute. The Memorandum aims to further strengthen cooperation between the two organisations in the fields of innovation, sustainable development, and marine research, with the shared objective of promoting the blue economy in Limassol and Cyprus more broadly.

The keynote speaker of the event was the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Dr Costas Kadis, while the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Mr Apostolos Tzitzikostas, also addressed the audience through an online intervention.

During the event, a high-level panel discussion also took place featuring the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Dr Costas Kadis, Captain Eugen-Henning Adami, President of The Cyprus Foundation of the Sea (CyFoS), and Ms Anna Pittali, President of WISTA Cyprus and Commercial Director – Head of Shipping and Trading at Intergaz Ltd. The discussion was moderated by the CEO of CMMI, Mr Zacharias Siokouros.

The Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute reaffirmed their commitment to continuing to actively support innovation, sustainable development, and the promotion of the blue economy, contributing meaningfully to the economic growth and development of Limassol and Cyprus.
