On World Fisheries Day, 21 November
2025, and within the framework of the CMMI – MaRITeC-X project, the Limassol
Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI), in collaboration with the Cyprus
Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), co-organised a gathering at Puesta Oyster
Bar and Grill in Limassol to express appreciation for their invaluable
contribution to the circular economy.
For months, Puesta has generously
provided us with oyster shells, materials that would normally be discarded.
These shells are now transformed into marine-friendly concrete and used in
3D-printed artificial reefs. More than just structures, these reefs serve as
Nature-Based Solutions, nurturing biodiversity, rebuilding habitats, and
helping our seas breathe again.
This initiative is a powerful example
of how local businesses can make a tangible difference for marine conservation.
By donating their shells, Puesta is actively helping conserve the marine
environment, restore ecosystems, and safeguard communities and infrastructure
along Cyprus’ coasts.
During the ceremony, Puesta received a
Certificate of Appreciation, recognising their leadership in the circular
economy and their commitment to a cleaner, healthier marine environment. The
gathering highlighted the incredible potential that emerges when local
businesses, science, and the community unite with a shared purpose.
