Issues pertaining to the much-debated National Health Scheme were
presented to the Board of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI)
by the Minister of Health, Dr. George Pamboridis.
Dr. Pamborides, who attended a recent meeting of the Board of the
Chamber at the invitation of LCCI President Costas Galatariotis ,engaged in a
historical review of developments across the entire health sector, noting the
need for drastic change in several areas in order to offer the best possible quality
of service to the public.
He noted that “Cyprus
is the only European Union member state without a National Health Service, a
state of affairs than cannot go on,” adding that all the parameters and costs
of what is currently proposed for Cyprus have been factored in and calculated.
It is a plan that will be of benefit to the whole of society, he said.
Noting
that nowhere in the world has a perfect National Health Scheme in place, the Minister said
that, in Cyprus, “There has to be a beginning. Whatever weaknesses may emerge
can be corrected while the project is being implemented”.
During and after his
presentation, the Minister answered questions submitted by LCCI
Board members.
