Radical upgrade of the fruit market of Trimiklini

The year 2023 will witness the remodeling and qualitative upgrading of the open-air popular market of Trimiklini, at a cost of €100.000, by the Community Council and the Limassol Tourism Promotion and Development Company, as the President of the Community Council of Trimiklini, Andreas Orfanou told "Entrepreneurial Limassol". He added that the next and most difficult step is to present the plans that have been elaborated to the sellers of the market and to inform them about the new order of things, regarding the cleanliness, quality and distribution of only Cypriot products.

The President of the Limassol Tourism Promotion and Development Company, Tony Antoniou, stated that the Limassol Tourism Board took the initiative for the project, in an effort to upgrade the "Koumantarochoria" (villages that produce commandaria wine), which include Trimiklini, in order to create within the market a spot for the promotion of commandaria, the sweet wine of Cyprus, which has been registered by the European Union, as a protected name and geographical origin. "There was no better place for this than the traditional market of Trimiklini, which is a point of reference for the people heading to Troodos", Mr. Antoniou pointed out.

They have agreed with the Community Council that only Cypriot products will be sold, the quality of which will be controlled and standards of cleanliness will be observed, with running water for all producers and a posted price list, in order to avoid cases of profiteering. Its configuration will be done with environmentally friendly materials. The Community has agreed with the Limassol Metropolitan Church, to upgrade the square of the church of Panagia Eleousa and the traditional café that operates in the area.  As Mr. Antoniou mentioned, funding programs will be used from the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, for replacing plastic tables and chairs with traditional chairs and wooden tables. The Limassol Tourism Promotion and Development Company will install a bus-kiosk in the area, in collaboration with the producers of commandaria, so that visitors can taste and be informed about the "sweet" wine of Cyprus.
