Positive but under certain conditions is the President of the Community Council of Kolossi, Loukas Genethliou in the integration of the community in the expanded Municipality of Kouriou or Kouri. "We expect a greater analysis of the various parameters of local government reform and the attitude we will take will depend on the safeguards that will be put in place in order to ensure better service to the residents of Kolossi" stressed Loukas Genethliou, speaking in “Entrepreneurial Limassol”. "Unfortunately the process was frozen due to Covid and the information we have had so far," he said, "is superficial," adding that there is good cooperation with all local authorities in the area.
Core Regeneration
The biggest outstanding issue for Kolossi, according to Mr. Generthliou, is the grand work of the reconstruction of the historical core of Kolossi which will connect the Castle with the traditional core of the community, the temple of Apostolos Loukas and the Byzantine churches of Agios Efstathios and Agios Andronikos. creating an attraction of great tourist importance. "The final plans are ready," Mr. Genethliou said, "but there is a long delay in the implementation of the project."
The contracts, as he explained, were signed in 2011, but the project has not yet started, because the then Community authority was unable to pay the prepayment to the project's advisor. The case was brought to court and the project, at a cost of 4 million euros, was suspended due to the economic crisis. The project, as he mentioned to “Entrepreneurial Limassol”, is urban planning, with the state contribution amounting to 90%. We are seeking, he added, to join the state budget with a simultaneous arrangement with the advisor, so that it can finally begin.
Road works
The project that will change the shape of the northern areas of the community is the construction of the new stadium of Limassol and the road network that will serve it. Work is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2021 and the road network will be ready by mid-2022, at the same time as the stadium. Its cost is estimated at EUR 7.5 million. It includes the construction of two new entrance-exits on the motorway from Spyros Kyprianou Avenue, which will be upgraded.
