The economic life of Limassol in the past and the city’s development into an industrial and business hub are showcased and honoured through the Limassol Chamber Industrial Museum “Kyriakos Hamboullas”, located on the ground floor of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) building complex.
The LCCI’s aim was to create a space that pays tribute to Limassol’s economic heritage and is open to visitors not only from among its members, but also to the wider public, particularly students and young people.
The museum was named after Kyriakos Hamboullas following a relevant decision by the LCCI Board of Directors. The decision aimed to honour the contribution of the late former Chamber President and recognise the multifaceted work carried out during his presidency, from 1974 to 1987.
The museum’s diverse and fascinating exhibits, donated by various LCCI member companies and other organisations, include machinery and equipment that were in use from as early as 1950, or even earlier, until relatively recent times. They illustrate the development of Limassol’s industrial sector throughout the 20th century.
A rich collection of photographs further enriches visitors’ journey into the past. A large screen presents each machine on display, providing specific information about its use, characteristics and date, helping visitors understand its significance and connect it with the history of the city.
The museum was inaugurated on 6 May 2017 by the then President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, during the presidency of Mr Costas Galatariotis at the LCCI.
