The Limassol Tourism Board promotes the Archaeological Sites of the region

In the context of the HERIT ADAPT project, the Limassol Tourism Board has prepared a new one-minute video (https://fb.watch/yjHy9Fp_R8/) that showcases archaeological sites of the region including Apollon Hylates, along with the project’s overall efforts to create a more sustainable and resilient tourism future in the Mediterranean.

Co-funded by the European Union, HERIT ADAPT brings together stakeholders, experts, and local communities to develop innovative strategies that protect cultural and natural heritage while ensuring long-term tourism sustainability. This initiative addresses pressing challenges such as climate change, overtourism, and environmental risks, which threaten some of the region’s most valuable heritage sites.

The project has established Interdisciplinary Territorial Working Groups (TWGs) in eight pilot regions, from UNESCO sites to hidden gems. These groups work together to integrate existing strategies, implement climate-smart solutions, and develop a Sustainable Tourism Model (STM) adaptable to different destinations. The Limassol Territorial Working Group includes the Limassol Tourism Board, the Department of Antiquities, Cyprus University of Technology and Kourion Municipality.

HERIT ADAPT demonstrates how heritage can be a tool for climate resilience. By raising awareness and sharing best practices, the project ensures that successful approaches can be transferred to other regions—securing the future of tourism while preserving the past.
