Official visit to the French-Cypriot School

The President of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mr Andreas Tsouloftas, accompanied by the Ambassador of France in Cyprus, Mrs Chevrier Kolačko and the Mayor of Limassol, Mr Yiannis Armeftis, visited on the 26th of March 2025 the French-Cypriot School (École Franco-Chypriote – EFC) in Limassol. The visit aimed to introduce the school’s mission and operations to the representatives of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce.

In attendance were the director of the French Institute of Cyprus, Mr Eric Tosatti, the President of the School’s Management Committee, Mr Petros Josephides and members of the Committee, the Honorary Consul of France in Limassol, Mrs Melina Papavassiliou, the representative of the Ministry of Education of Cyprus to the School’s Board, Dr Niki Papadopoullou-Papa and the Director of the School Management, Mrs Myriam Jacquet.

During the visit, the Ambassador of France Mrs Chevrier Kolačko has given an overview of the school’s educational approach, curriculum, and its role in strengthening educational and cultural ties between Cyprus and France. The French-Cypriot School has been delivering high-quality education in Cyprus for over a decade. Established through a bilateral agreement between France and Cyprus, it is a similar type private school, non-profit institution officially recognised by both countries’ Ministries of Education.

EFC is part of the prestigious AEFE network (Agence pour l’Enseignement Français à l’Étranger), which connects 600 schools across 140 countries, serving over 400,000 students. This ensures a globally recognised curriculum and a seamless academic journey for students worldwide, culminating in the French Baccalauréat—a qualification respected by top universities across Europe and beyond.

Nicosia and Limassol branches together serve around 450 students from over 50 nationalities, providing a multicultural, inclusive environment. From the age of 3, students are immersed in a trilingual environment: French, Greek and English form the core languages of instruction, with additional language options introduced from age 12. The school offers both French-only and bilingual pathways, providing flexibility to meet each student’s learning needs and each family's educational priorities.

EFC follows the French national curriculum from kindergarten to high school, leading to the French Baccalauréat—a highly regarded diploma that opens doors to prestigious institutions in France, Europe the UK, Europe, USA, Canada and beyond. The school is known for its commitment to academic rigour, cultural diversity, and a warm, inclusive atmosphere.

The Limassol branch has grown significantly since opening three years ago, with its student population quadrupling in that time. Fully homologated by AEFE, it is fully integrated into the global AEFE network, offering students access to international programmes, exchanges, and educational competitions.

Currently, the Limassol branch welcomes pupils from Maternelle (kindergarten) to CE2 (Year 4 - 3rd grade of primary school), with a new grade level added each year and the possibility of further expansion based on demand. In the French education system, Maternelle is an essential part of school preparation—not simply childcare. It plays a vital role in fostering early writing, reading, creativity, autonomy and self-expression.

Located in the heart of Limassol in a historic building, the campus offers a safe, stimulating learning environment led by a highly committed teaching team. With a strong focus on personalised learning, EFC Limassol ensures that each child develops at their own pace in a nurturing and inspiring setting. As a member of the AEFE network, students at EFC can transfer seamlessly to any of the 600 AEFE schools worldwide, ensuring educational continuity for internationally mobile families.

Beyond academic achievement, the school nurtures strong values rooted in the French educational philosophy: equality, tolerance, respect, cultural diversity, and critical thinking. EFC helps students grow into thoughtful, ethical, and responsible global citizens—confident, curious, and kind. The French-Cypriot School continues to grow in both Nicosia and Limassol, offering families a vibrant, multicultural education founded on excellence and human values.
