There appears to be a solution on the horizon for the phenomenon of accumulated waste materials in empty plots and bins in neighborhood streets within the city and district of Limassol, thanks to the signing of a contract for the creation of green areas. The agreement was signed between the Integrated Solid Waste Management Facility of Limassol (OEDA) and M.M.K Planet Ltd, which manages the five Green Points in our city.
These refer to four fixed Green Points, which are located in the areas of Fasoula, Parekklisia, Kolossi and Avdimou. The 5th Green Point is a mobile unit, which will undertake the collection of waste materials from the furthest communities in Limassol. These Points will operate 4-5 times a week, during hours that are convenient for all, and they will collect a wide range of materials (packaging materials, gardening materials, fabrics, mattresses, furniture, toys, electrical appliances, paints, batteries, plastic, metals).
According to the President of the OEDA and Mesa Yitonia Mayor, Doros Antoniou, this agreement aims to significantly contribute to our efforts to keep our city clean, and create a clean and healthy environment. Mr. Antoniou stressed that the effective operation of the Green Points depends on the change in habits and overall conscientiousness of all Limassol citizens, which will ensure that visual and other types of pollution caused by the uncontrolled abandonment of waste materials will eventually disappear. The Green Points are expected to fully operate within October 2018 and there will be further information released, both online and in print, for the people to be able to use their services.
