The Cyprus Organization for Standardization (CYS) announces the adoption of six (6) ISO International Standards in the field of project management as Cyprus National Standards, following strong support from a wide range of stakeholders across the public and private sectors, including ministries, public authorities, businesses, and professional associations.
The adopted standards are:
1. ISO 21500:2021 Project, programme and portfolio management — Context and concepts
2. ISO 21502:2020 Project, programme and portfolio management — Guidance on project management
3. ISO 21503:2022 Project, programme and portfolio management — Guidance on programme management
4. ISO 21504:2022 Project, programme and portfolio management — Guidance on portfolio management
5. ISO 21505:2017 Project, programme and portfolio management — Guidance on governance
6. ISO 21506:2024 Project, programme and portfolio management — Vocabulary
The adoption of ISO standards at national level reflects their internationally proven value and supports enhanced governance, transparency, and alignment with global best practices. Similar initiatives, such as the adoption of CYS ISO 37001 on Anti-bribery Management Systems, have already demonstrated their contribution to strengthening corporate governance and compliance in Cyprus.
This suite of standards provides a comprehensive and internationally recognized framework for project, programme, and portfolio management, applicable to organizations of all sizes and sectors.
Their adoption as National Standards is expected to:
Establish a structured and commonly accepted framework for project management at national level
Improve project governance and organizational maturity
Strengthen professional competencies in project management
Enhance the competitiveness of Cypriot organizations locally and internationally
Promote common principles and terminology
As voluntary guidance standards, they serve as valuable reference tools for both public and private sector organizations, fostering consistency, efficiency, and transparency in project management practices.
