In the framework of Europe Day celebrations and in view of the multiple ocean-related events taking place in Cyprus, the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) presents the exhibition “Beneath the Surface: CMMI’s Dive into Marine Sciences”.
With the support of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, the European Parliament Office in Cyprus, Larnaka Municipality and Limassol Municipality, the exhibition will take place at Finikoudes Promenade in Larnaka on the 9 – 18 May 2026.
The inauguration of the exhibition will take place on 9 May at 19:00 hrs on the sidelines of Europe Day celebrations where the public will have the opportunity from 17:00 hrs to participate in interactive activities available for children and adults, to visit informational booths, and to enjoy a rich artistic programme.
The exhibition is held under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
On the 19 – 24 May 2026, the exhibition will be on display in Limassol as a parallel event of the European Maritime Day (EMD).
A few words about the exhibition
The exhibition invites the public on a photographic journey into the often-unseen world of scientific diving, highlighting its importance for the study of marine life, underwater natural and cultural heritage, and the changes taking place in marine ecosystems.
Through a selection of underwater photographs featuring modern equipment and innovative research approaches, the exhibition brings to the forefront both the scientific and the human dimensions of marine research. It highlights the dedication, perseverance, and close connection with the underwater environment that fieldwork demands, while underscoring CMMI’s contribution to the understanding, protection, and the sustainable stewardship of the oceans.
