LCCI Board Learns about EAC Priorities


The activities, objectives and the development programme of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) were presented before a recent meeting of the Board of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry.


Welcoming the EAC’s Deputy General Manager, Antonis Patsalis and his associates, LCCI President Costas Galatariotis thanked the Electricity Authority for its positive response to the Chamber’s invitation, as well as for the donation of pieces of old machinery to the Chamber’s industrial museum which is currently being set up on the ground floor of the LCCI’s premises.


Mr. Patsalis and his associates subsequently briefed the LCCI Board on a broad spectrum of issues pertaining to the day-to-day running of the EAC and to the Authority’s future planning. Issues included EAC activities, European legislation regarding the electricity market, the harmonisation of EU directives and Cyprus legislation, Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) decisions and EAC compliance, new pricing methodology, renewable energy, the ten-year Transmission System development plan, the Limassol district Distribution System, the European NER 300 – Green+ programme, and the Akrotiri photovoltaic park.


Both during and after the presentation, the EAC team answered a number of questions submitted by the LCCI Board members. In response to a question abiut the optimum tariffs for the industrial sector, Mr. Patsalis noted that it was important for industries to exercise optimum demand-side management. As a result, it was decided that the Limassol Chamber should host a seminar in the autumn, at EAC specialists will inform the energy-related personnel of manufacturing companies on what is required to achieve the desired energy savings.
