An AKEL
delegation, headed by party Secretary General Andros Kyprianou paid a visit to
the offices of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). In a
meeting with a delegation of the Chamber Board under President Andreas
Tsouloftas, the two sides exchanged views on current economic issues,
especially in light of the ongoing pandemic and its effects.
LCCI and
AKEL agreed that although public health is of paramount importance, the very
serious economic and social consequences of repeated lockdowns and other
restrictions must be taken very seriously. The two sides also stressed the need
to speed up the vaccination process, as the only measure under the
circumstances to get out of what is already a protracted crisis as quickly as
possible and return to the normality of the pre-pandemic times.
The Chamber
expressed its serious concern about the liquidity problem that will be faced
and stressed the urgent need for Parliament to vote into law the bill on
government guarantees, certainly ahead of its dissolution in the run-up to the
May 30 elections. Reference was also made to a number of development projects
in Limassol that remain pending, including the Technology Park in Pentakomo.
