City break in downtown Limassol - boutique hotels are becoming fashionable

Elegant boutique hotels are the new trend in the historic centre of Limassol, bringing refreshing air to the area, which accedes, even if somewhat delayed to the realm of city break. Gorgeous neoclassical mansions are carefully restored to meet the high demand, offering visitors all services, right next to the main points of interest and the business centre. In total, five applications are right now pending before the Limassol Municipality for the creation of alternative hotels. Following Nicosia, the Israeli Fattal Hotels Group announced its expansion to Limassol, where it plans to open a boutique hotel by 2022 under the name NYX Hotel Limassol. The new hotel, which will be decorated with works by various artists, will be located at 137 Christodoulou Hadjipavlou avenue and will have 135 rooms.

• Across from Lanitis Arcade, at 159 St Andrews Street, a new hotel will be built by the name St Andreas Hotel, is planned to be built. The hotel will consist of two building units, with 40 rooms and 14 apartments. Its main feature will be the patio surrounded by recreation and dining areas and a roof garden with a pool.
• The flagship of the new investments being made in the area is arguably the conversion of the former E&S Mall into a 180-room hotel-city design by the Prosperity Group, in partnership with the Brown international hotel chain. The plans envision the creation of a boutique hotel, with a panoramic lounge bar and pool in the roof garden.
• Limassol's first boutique hotel opened its doors in 2018, in a 19th-century mansion on the corner of Iphigenia and St Andrews Streets. The Sir Paul Hotel impresses with its 22 high-ceilinged rooms and the arches of the inner courtyard, which hosts the hotel's restaurant. The €1.5 million investment was made possible by entrepreneur Natalie Martini with support from the European Investment Fund.
• On the same road, just 200 meters from the seaside road, in a listed 1881 building, one new boutique hotel which opened last year to welcome those who want to experience the splendor of another era. La Maltese Boutique Mansion, housed in Demosthenes Hadjipavlou's old mansion, at the intersection of St Andrews and Anexartisias Streets with a simple and elegant design, makes its 10 high-ceilinged suites truly impressive.
• The charm and elegance of the old mansions inspired the creation of the Heart Hotel. An old mansion on Zenon Street in the Agia Triada district is transformed into a boutique hotel with a vintage and retro style by Andria and Stylianos Lambrou. Its aim is to combine elements of Cypriot architecture with more contemporary touches and provide the visitor with a unique experience.
• The latest addition to city centre hotels is Old Port Studios. This will open its gates in the coming days next to the Second Municipal Market.

On the other hand, still pending are plans to transform the historic Ioannidis Bookstore (which closed down in 2010), into a luxury hotel unit. A request to convert it into a 16-room boutique hotel with a restaurant on the ground floor and an additional floor to the east side roof is still awaiting approval Aesthetics Committee of the Town Planning Department.
