Issues pertaining to stress in the workplace, including practical suggestions on how to deal with them, were analyzed in detail in the context of an educational seminar organized by the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the Limassol Labour Inspection Office (which is part of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance).
Speaking before an audience representing member companies of the Chamber and other organisations (municipalities, etc), Organizational Psychologist Andria Georgiadou outlined her views on Stress Management and Socio-Psychological Dangers in the workplace. Ms. Georgiadou’s presentation included the definition of stress, its causes and ways of successfully coping with it. She noted that in cases where stress avoidance is not realistically possible, what is required is the proper management of the stressful situation.
Next was a presentation by the Vice President of the Cyprus Physiotherapists Association, Mr. Lakis Droushiotis, on “Physiotherapeutic Remedies to Stress and Simple Exercises than can be Tried in the workplace”. Mr. Droushiotis referred to the effects of stress on the normal functioning of the human body, muscle tension,, etc and noted that stretching and other simple movements of the head and the limbs can help alleviate such tension.
Introductory addresses were made by the directors of the Limassol Chamber and the Limassol Labour Inspection Office, both of whom highlighted the excellent cooperation between the two bodies, which is based on the common objective of creating and sustaining proper conditions of health and safety in the workplace, first and foremost because good health is of paramount importance for everybody but also because it contributes significantly to raising productivity at work.
