Crafted from native Cypriot and international grape varieties, Zambartas wines have a style all of their own. Zambartas wineries brings scientific discipline to the winemaking process and, together with a creative flare, ensure the finest quality, year after year. Since its establishment in 2006, Zambartas Wineries has been awarded over 35 gold, silver and bronze medals in international and local wine competitions, including the Decanter World Wine Awards.
Zambartas Wineries was founded by Akis Zambartas, after a long career in the wine industry, during which he was Managing Director of one of the largest wineries in Cyprus for 8 years, having been Chief Winemaker for 25 years. In 2006 he realized his dream and founded his own winery on the beautiful Southern hills of the Troodos Mountains.
His son Marcos, who is now running the business, completed his degree in Chemistry at Imperial University London and gradually developed a love for wine. In 2007 he left behind the corporate world and went to Adelaide University in Australia to study for a Masters degree in Winemaking. He worked in vineyards and wineries in Provence France, New Zealand and in McLaren Vale, Australia, before and during his studies. Marcos is now the Chief Winemaker of Zambartas Wineries.
The company’s vision is to produce small quantities of quality wines, with a strong focus on Cypriot grape varieties, such as Xynisteri, Maratheftiko and Yiannoudi. They make single variety wines, but also do blends with international varieties. One of the firm’s most celebrated wines, a Rosé, is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Lefkada.
The winery currently manages 3 hectares of vineyards and is planning to invest in the coming years in more vineyards, in order to ensure the quality of the grapes that it works with. This year's new project is a Single Vineyard Xynisteri wine, for which it uses only grapes from its own 27-year-old Xynisteri vineyard in Mandria. In the near future, Zambartas Wineries will also be producing a single vineyard Maratheftiko.
The company’s wines are sold in Cyprus, mainly in hotels, restaurants and wine shops, but a small percentage are exported abroad: to Switzerland, Germany, Holland and the UK, where the wines are imported by Berry Bros. & Rudd in London.
The company welcomes visitors to its small and modern winery, located in Agios Amvrosios, one of the Limassol wine villages, all year around on weekdays and at weekends by appointment.
