The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), as the main coordinator of the ‘Blue Youth Camps’ programme and with the support of the NGOs CYMEPA and Active Zone Outdoor, successfully completed for the second consecutive year its summer camp titled “Explorers and Guardians of Our Sea in Action.” The camp took place at UCLan Cyprus University premises in Larnaca, from 21 to 29 June 2025.
This initiative aims to provide children with knowledge, experience, adventure, and creativity related to the marine world, while simultaneously enhancing Ocean Literacy through experiential workshops, group activities, and creative play. The programme was designed by CMMI’s scientific team in collaboration with educators and was implemented by specialised personnel, emphasising teamwork, observation skills, acceptance, free thinking, and equal participation.
From 21 to 25 June, children aged 9-12 attended the camp, followed by secondary school students aged 13-15 from 25 to 29 June. Participants had the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities, both within and beyond the camp facilities, which fostered environmental awareness and offered them unforgettable experiences.
The positive response of the children, the enthusiasm of the facilitators, and the strong support of partner organisations contributed significantly to the programme’s success. Each day was a new adventure, full of images, emotions, and inspiration for a sustainable and ocean-friendly future.
First impressions from Blue Youth Camp 2025 are enthusiastic!
· Children eagerly participated in activities such as reef swimming, nautical sports, stargazing, skills workshops, and team-building games.
· The variety and quality of experiences appear to have strengthened their self-confidence, teamwork, and environmental consciousness.
The programme was designed to cultivate in the next generation a love for the sea, while simultaneously inspiring them to explore professional opportunities within the Blue Economy.
