Erimi: ready for its own regional museum

The Community Council seeks to create a regional Museum in Erimi, with the aim of highlighting and making use of its long history, which goes back to the Chalcolithic era, and the very important finds brought to light by the archaeological dig. Erimi Community leader head Andreas Aresti told "Entrepreneurial Limassol" that the request was made to the Minister of Transport Yiannis Karousos, who viewed it positively and that contacts are underway with the Department of Antiquities for the use of finds exhibited in the Limassol Museum, or others that are located nowadays in Erimi, where excavations continue, with the participation of an Italian Archaeological Mission.

As Mr. Aresti told us, there is a proposal for the acquisition of a specific space, with the help of the state. He pointed out that months ago, the Minister of Transport sat in a pan-community meeting and was informed about the problems created due to the delay in the exploratory excavations in the plots under development, due to a lack of manpower in the Department of Antiquities. In Erimi there are four important prehistoric archaeological sites, in the locations of Pampoula, Pitharia, Kafkalla and Laonin of Porakos and the development of housing in the vicinity has become very difficult and time-consuming.

On the instructions of Yiannis Karousos, a proposal has been prepared and approved by the Council of Ministers at the beginning of September, to grant gradually, over a period of 40 months, to the Community Council, an amount of €1,259,808 for the purchase of hourly services, so that the excavations can be completed in the pending sections, quickly and efficiently.

The community has also asked the Minister of Education to include it in the sites visited by schools, due to its archaeological importance. In the meantime, in a meeting that the community head recently had with the Ministers of Interior and Transport, it was agreed that state funds be allocated for the renovation of the Agios Charalambos church square. According to Andrea Aresti, Erimi has currently has five taverns, but the aim of the Community Council is to double them and to operate shops in its renovated core. Also under consideration is to pedestrianize streets in the core center of the community on Fridays and Saturdays, with a view to creating a nice atmosphere for visitors.
