Despite the strong blow inflicted by the pandemic in the tourism sector, investments in new hotels in Limassol remain in the pipeline, although new timetables may apply in view of the new realities caused by COVID-19. It is estimated that in the coming years the number of available rooms in Limassol will increase by 965 or by 20,3%. According to data compiled by KPMG in the context of the Cyprus Hospitality Report, in 2022 two new five-star hotels will operate in Limassol. One is the City of Dreams casino resort, where construction work is somewhat delayed due to the pandemic. The NYX Hotel Limassol, with a capacity of 135 rooms, is also expected to open in 2022. To that end, Fattal has commissioned Tsolakis Architects to remodel a property located at 137-143 Christodoulos Hatzipavlos Avenue. On the top floor, there will be a restaurant with a pool overlooking the Limassol seafront.
Huge hotels side by side
The operation of Sofitel Hotel Resort & Residences has been postponed, to the year 2023. This is the first development of branded luxury mixed-use apartments with a five-star hotel in Europe, which has already received a planning permit. The two residential towers will be erected as an extension of the hotel on the Moni beach. The new resort is managed by Oxley Planetvision and will feature 250 rooms, restaurants, bars, swimming pool, entertainment and meeting areas, gym, spa and Club Millesime Lounge.
Almost next to Sofitel, the first Hyatt hotel in Cyprus is expected to open - in 2025. Grand Hyatt Limassol will be part of Zaria Resort, a luxury mixed-use development, consisting of residential apartments and private villas, covering an area of 80,000 sq.m. It will have 300 rooms, a beach club, one indoor and two outdoor pools, a spa and a gym. The resort will offer food and beverage options, and will also feature a large event space.
Rising in height
After the Four Seasons and the Mediterranean, St Raphael Resort also rose in height with The Tower, overlooking the St. Raphael Marina, which allows tenants to reach their destination directly by sea. The tower will consist of 12 floors with luxury apartments, a reception lobby and an impressive restaurant. Next is the Crowne Plaza, which submitted to the Environment Department a study for the construction of a new 8-storey building, with 22 apartments, roof garden and underground parking. The new building will be connected to the main hotel via a metal tunnel.
New city centre boutique hotels
St. Andreas Hotel. The new boutique hotel of 40 rooms and 14 apartments on Agios Andreas Street, has been designed by the architectural office Potamiti-Nikolaou and is in the process of securing permits. One of its most attractive elements is the ‘’secret’’ inner garden on the patio of the restaurant and bar. Alinea Urban City Hotel. A new three-storey city hotel with shops, lobby and roof garden, is being built on Gennadios Street, along the popular Saripolos Square. The old building is being completely renovated and transformed into a state-of-the-art hotel aiming to offer a special stay in the centre of Limassol. Two more hotels are in the planning stage in the center: the Heart Hotel and the hotel of the international chain Brown, in the old Coop building.
