The Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry was represented at the business forum that was recently organised in Beijing by the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The forum coincided with the official visit to the Chinese capital of President Nicos Anastasiades from October 13 to October 19.
The Limassol Chamber’s participation was decided in recognition of the capacities and prospects of the Chinese economy in the whole spectrum of entrepreneurial activity, and aiming to explore new business opportunities for Chamber members, in addition to promoting closer ties with Chinese organisations. At the same time, the Limassol Chamber, which is very keen on promoting research and innovation, aimed at briefing Chinese enterprises and organisations on the upcoming launching of the Pentakomo Scientific and Technological Park.
On the occasion of his presence in Beijing, the Limassol Chamber’s representative, Senior Officer Nicolas Iordanou, had a series of meetings with organisations such as the Commonwealth Society of Beijing, the Asia Africa and Latin America Cooperation and Exchanges Association, the China Crop Protection Industry Association, the China Energy Mining Group Investments Limited Company, the GNSS & LBS Association of China, the Beijing Shougouang Research Institute and the GEC Enterprise Union Development Association.
Mr. Iordanou also visited the Zhongguancun Innovation and Entrepreneur Festival in Beijing’s Zhongguancun region, which is home to more than 8,000 local and international companies, which are active in the fields of research and innovation. Included are 50 of the world’s largest companies. It is an area popularly known as “China’s Silicon Valley” and hosts the high-tech Zhongguancun Scientific and Technological Garden. This is one of China’s leading scientific and technological parks and employs some 370,000 individuals, including 6,000 Ph.D. level scientists.
Meetings were also held with representatives of companies and academic institutions, who were briefed about the impending Pentakomo Scientific and Technological Park and the possibility was raised of Chinese interest in various aspects of the project.
