NEW ISRAELI AMBASSADOR VISITS LIMASSOL CHAMBER

Intent on knowing more about the economic profile of Limassol, Israel’s new ambassador to Cyprus, Mrs. Yael Ravia-Zadok, visited the premises of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce & Industry in late October.

Mrs. Ravia-Zadok, who was accompanied by the Embassy Economic Counsellor Demetris Fessas, met with Limassol Chamber President Costas Galatariotis, Commerce Vice President Andreas Tsouloftas and Board member Heros Miltiadous and was briefed on issues pertaining to the structure, the objectives and the activities of the Chamber.

Mr. Galatariotis outlined the particular characteristics of Limassol in the whole spectrum of economic and business activity and also referred to the role of the Chamber towards the implementation of development projects throughout the district of Limassol. A case in point is the Pentakomo Scientific and Technological Park, for which offers will be invited shortly. Incentives for the project are generous and there is a distinct possibility a project of this nature could well be of interest to Israeli organizations that are known for their expertise in areas such as research & development, innovation and hi-tech.

The new Israeli ambassador, whose tenure in Cyprus started on September 4, said she was open to any ideas as to how to further strengthen bilateral economic relations between Israel and Cyprus. She mentioned especially the possibility of Cyprus exporting agricultural products to Israel to make up for periodic shortages in the Israeli market. As for tourism, Mrs. Ravia-Zadok  referred to the need of adequate promotion in Israel of events taking place in Limassol (such as the Limassol Marathon, the Carnival, etc) in addition to the possibility of Cyprus, and especially the mountain resorts, becoming a destination for middle class Israelis who like the idea of a short vacation in the vicinity of the south-eastern Mediterranean.

Concluding the Ambassador’s visit, and in the presence of the President of the Cyprus-Israel Business Association Christakis Papavassiliou, the Limassol Chamber and the Israeli Embassy reiterated their readiness to step up their cooperation in support of the business communities of the two countries.
