The 5th Sustainable Mobility Festival, which was organised by the Limassol Tourism Board on the 21st and 22nd of September 2024, at Limassol Marina, was successfully completed. The festival was held in the framework of the European Mobility Week, an annual campaign of the European Commission that aims to raise awareness on sustainable urban mobility. The campaign gave the opportunity, for another year, for cities and towns across the EU to participate with hands-on activities. This year's central theme, "shared public space", was highlighted through a variety of activities such as an exhibition of bicycles, electric vehicles and chargers, the presence of an electric bus and a performance with scooters and a choir from kindergartens.
The Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, recognising the importance of sustainable mobility in Limassol, actively participated in the festival, giving citizens the opportunity to take part in interactive activities. Participants were invited to answer a question on how sustainable mobility could improve in Limassol. The answers mainly focused on upgrading public transport, including routes and infrastructure, as well as expanding bike lanes and pedestrian paths, showing the citizens' desire for better infrastructure. Additionally, participants were able to fill in a survey, which addressed the challenges citizens face in implementing sustainable modes of transport, as well as suggestions for potential improvements.
The event was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Dr. Maria Panayiotou. The Ministry was represented by Mrs. Εliana Tofa Christidou, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Directorate-General for the Environment.
