Towards a sustainable Limassol: Beach clean-up organized by the Limassol Chamber

The Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry as part of "European Maritime Day in My Country" (EMD), in collaboration with the City Friends Club, organized a beach clean-up for a second consecutive year on June 29th. The initiative was under the auspices of the Shipping Deputy Ministry and supported by V.Ships and Oceanic. A group of dedicated volunteers gathered at Limassol’s coastline with the shared goal of contributing to the preservation of the coastal environment and raising awareness about trash that could harm marine life and degrade the ecosystem.

Participants of all ages, armed with supplies such as gloves and trash bags, collected a significant amount of waste. The waste included 27 bags of general litter (e.g., masks, straws, cigarette butts, fishing gear), 22 bags of PMD (e.g., water and soft drinks bottles, cans, plastic bags), and 200 kg of large bulky items (e.g., tyres, abandoned parts of boats, household appliances). The collected waste was sorted and properly disposed of, ensuring that recyclable materials were directed to the appropriate facilities.

This action is part of the European project CMMI – MaRITeC-X, in which the Limassol Chamber participates as a partner. The beach clean-up is just one of many initiatives under this project that raise awareness and advocates for positive change to safeguard coastal ecosystems for future generations.
