Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) Events

The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) has participated in numerous events in the past couple of months, both in Cyprus and abroad, such as for example the Waterborne Days conference, the European Researchers’ Night, and the 10th EuroGOOS International Conference. It has become a proud member of the prestigious and renowned European Marine Board (EMB) and announces its collaboration with the Human Resource Development Authority (HRDA) of Cyprus, taking over the implementation of training programmes in relation to the blue economy, offered for free, and invites the public to apply!

Below the events in more detail:
BREAKING THE SURFACE
In the framework of SeaTecHub project (funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe Programme, Grant No: 101087162), CMMI participated at the 15th International Interdisciplinary Field Workshop of Maritime Robotics and Applications "Breaking the Surface" held in Kotor, Montenegro where CMMI’s progress in relation to the marine ecosystem restoration was presented. Hosts of the event: the University of Zagreb and the University of Montenegro.

EUROPEAN RESEARCHERS' NIGHT 2023
CMMI participated at the European Researchers' Night 2023 organised by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) and entitled "Mission: CONNECT". Visitors had the opportunity to be informed about blue professions and the sustainable use and management of marine resources.

WATERBORNE DAYS CONFERENCE 2023
The Waterborne Days Conference, organised through a collaboration between the LASTING consortium and the European Commission, took place in Brussels bringing together researchers, academics, experts, and industry leaders from the waterborne ecosystem. CMMI had the opportunity to present its activities and achievements on decarbonisation and share the research community’s perspective on waterborne transport.

EUROGOOS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
CMMI participated at the 10th EuroGOOS International Conference in Galway, organised by the Marine Institute of Ireland and bringing together more than 200 scientists related to Oceanography from all over the world. The next EuroGOOS conference will be hosted by CMMI in Larnaca and will take place during Cyprus’ rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union on the first half of 2026. It will coincide with other sea-related events of paramount importance, such as the central event of the European Maritime Day (EMD), that will take place in Limassol, and the Regional Marine Sciences Conference, organised by CMMI every two years.

EUROPEAN MARINE BOARD
CMMI has become a member of the prestigious European Marine Board (EMB), following a unanimous vote held during the EMB’s autumn plenary session in Vigo, Spain. EMB is the leading European think tank in marine science policy that provides a platform to advance marine research and to bridge the gap between science and policy.
