The Limassol Municipality aims to achieve significant operational benefits for the citizens, with the installation and operation of a smart management system for selected public off- and on-street parking spaces, with an expenditure of €5.25 million. The main benefit will be the reduction of fuel consumption, as drivers will avoid the ordeal of blindly searching for a parking space, since they will receive immediate information about the availability of spaces on each street.
At the same time, citizens will need less time to pay for parking, since they will be able to do so with their mobile phone. Better control of parking in non-permitted areas such as spaces reserved for the disabled will also be achieved. At the same time, the traffic wardens will carry out targeted and effective checks, since through the sensors they will be immediately informed of the exact point of any violation.
The system will also provide the possibility of gathering transportation data, which can be used to effect improvements where necessary. The tender for the supply, development, installation and maintenance was announced on 3/3/2023 and the deadline for receipt of tenders is until May 12, 2023 at 12 noon, when they will be unsealed for evaluation purposes. The unified parking management system in the city centre provides for the installation of photocells and on-street parking spaces will operate with SMS and the off-street ones with bars.
The "Smart Parking" system concerns 1500 side parking spaces, in wider areas of the city centre. It also includes about 876 parking spaces in "off-street" parking lots along the beach and in areas of the urban centre, such as for example in the Molos (seaside) area and Enaerios. The tender foresees a period of 12 months for the complete installation of the system and then 4 years for its management and operation by the successful tenderer. Also, an option is provided on behalf of the Municipality of Limassol to renew the contract for a further 5 years, in terms of its maintenance, management and operation. The system to be installed as well as its management platform, will be interconnected with the central management government platform, promoted through the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy.
