The 1st Study Group with Industry comes to Cyprus
OPEN CALL FOR COMPANY CHALLENGES
The 1st Study Group with Industry is taking place in Limassol,
5-9 December 2016, in order to initiate and enable long-term collaborations
between academia and industry in Cyprus. StudyGroups with Industry are week-long workshops where mathematical scientists work
on real and important challenges the companies and the society are facing
today. They were initiated at the University of Oxford in
1968 and since then they have been successfully organised in more than 20
countries. The 1st Cypriot Study Group is also the 125th European Study
Group with Industry (ESGI).
Location: Cyprus University of Technology and Poseidonia Beach Hotel.
The 125th ESGI is organised by the Mathematicsfor Industry Network (MINET, COST Action TD1409), in collaboration with the Cyprus University of Technology. MINET is an EU-funded network of 31 countries that facilitates the application of mathematics to all sectors of commerce and industry. The 125th ESGI is also sponsored by MINET and KPMG Cyprus and is supported by the Research Promotion Foundation, the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the University of Cyprus, the British High Commission in Cyprus, and RTD Talos Ltd.
Which companies can submit challenges to the Study Group? Companies, and organisations from any sector and of any size can submit a challenge.
Which challenges? Any challenge that can be addressed with a structured, analytical, and quantitative approach. You can see challenges addressed in previous Study Groups at http://www.maths-in-industry.org/miis/view/subjects. Hundreds of companies have greatly benefited from Study Groups around the world including Unilever, AIRBUS, Philips, and Dell, as well as many SMEs.
Structure of a Study Group: Companies present the challenge during the 1st day of the Study Group, and subsequently expert mathematical scientists work intensive in teams for one week, in close collaboration with the company in order to identify a preliminary solution and devise a strategy for further work. After the Study Group, a report is delivered to the company. 40 mathematical scientists from Cyprus and abroad will be selected to work on the challenges.
How is a challenge submitted? Please use our online
form at http://www.esgi-cy.org/register/company-registration. 3-4 challenges will be selected after careful evaluation by
the Local Organising Committee in consultation with a team of renowned
international experts.
Fees: 500 Euros for SMEs and 1500 Euros for large companies (payable only if the challenge is selected). For LCCI members a discount of 10% has been arranged as the LCCI is an official supporter, please mention the LCCI membership on the application form.
