Commensurate with the tasks provide under the S.E.W.B.A.N. (South East Europe Women's Business Angels Network) program, the Limassol, Chamber of Commerce & Industry organized recently a presentation of entrepreneurial ideas from women to potential investors and the general public. The Chamber is a partner of the consortium running the program and the latest presentation was essentially in the form of a Pitching Event.
In an opening address, Limassol Chamber Vice President/Tourism Anthi Theocharous, who pointed out the important role that the Chamber plays in the broader economic development of Limassol and its support to the overall business environment. She also underlined that the event was taking place in support of female entrepreneurship, a sector that needed to be further enhanced.
Subsequently, Limassol Chamber Senior Officer Nicolas Iordanou, presented the objectives, perspectives and actions foreseen in the SEEWBAN project, pointing out that the main policy objective of the program was to strengthen the confidence of investors in women business ideas, through Business Angels. He added that the Chamber, building on its know-how, will set up an institutionalized service, holding a similar event each year according the possibility of new business ideas and investors to get together.
There followed two relevant presentations. The first was by Panayiotis Filimis, who spoke about the Gravity incubator and the opportunities it provides for Start-ups. The second was by Monika Ioannidou, Director of ARIS Accelerator, which referred to the services provided by ARIS for the development of new enterprises and at the same time underlined the importance of encouraging and promoting female entrepreneurship.
In the main part of the event, 10 women presented their business ideas to prospective investors, to the public and to a two-member jury comprising the Cyprus Business Angels Network Managing Director, Andreas Koupparis and Panayiotis Filimis. Business ideas came from various sectors of the economy, such as technology, ecology, fashion, visual arts, etc.
