LCCI reiterates support for Excelsior project

The Limassol Chamber and Industry (LCCI) extends its full support for the European Excelsior project, according to LCCI President Costas Galatariotis.

Addressing the kick-off meeting of Excelsior participants, a project which is under the general coordination of the Cyprus University of Technology, the Limassol Chamber President commended the fact that the proposal, which was composed by a research team under the Vice Rector Dr Diofantos Hajimitsis, secured top marks in the first phase of evaluation (from amongst over 200 proposals submitted) which, he stressed was representative of the high quality of the proposal, resulting no doubt from hard and diligent work.

Mr. Galatariotis noted, moreover, that the role of LCCI as a supporter came naturally, not just because of the exemplary cooperation that long existed  between the Chamber and the University, but also because of the innovation element that is abundantly clear in Excelsior (which envisages to set up a Centre of Excellence for Research, to employ space-related technologies and remote sensing in observations of the earth and the environment) and the steadfast belief of the Chamber that innovation is the key to the future economic development of our country.

Concluding his address, the LCCI President expressed the wish that the Excelsior is equally successful in the second phase of evaluations in the context of the European Research Programme Teaming for Excellence, a development that will ensure the economic feasibility of the whole project, in view of the sizeable funding that will become accessible in this case.
