LIMASSOL CHAMBER – ONE YEAR SHY OF SIXTY…

The 59th Annual General Meeting of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry was crowned with success. The official part of the Meeting featured, among others, a speech by Chamber President Andreas Tsouloftas, who made extensive reference to the actions and initiatives of the last year, as well the expectations of the Limassol business society.

The Meeting began with an address on behalf of the state By the Transport, Communications and Works Minister Giannis Karousos, and for the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry by its President Christodoulos Angastiniotis, both of whom, among other things, commended the work carried out by the Limassol Chamber in support of entrepreneurship.

In his report, President Andreas Tsouloftas referred to the difficult conditions that have prevailed in the last year due to the pandemic and the concomitant restrictive measures, and to actions and initiatives undertaken by the Chamber in support of its members and to promote the development needs of Limassol, at city and district level.

He noted face-to-face meetings with the Minister of Agriculture and Environment with reference to the serious problems observed especially in the district of Limassol in terms of waste disposal, as well as with the Minister of Transport for road and other projects. He also stressed the importance of green growth in the framework of the European Green Deal, but also of the innovation which, he said, will have a strong impetus if, as there are official assurances, the Technology Park in Pentakomo goes ahead.

He said the Chamber was not happy with the delays observed regarding the Limassol Local Plan and the implementation of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan and called for an improvement in the assistance of the public sector to entrepreneurship, as the findings of the Chamber Business Barometer show there was a serious problem at this level.

Giving the assurance that the business community and the Chamber members will continue to play a leading role in supporting the Cypriot economy and the development of the country, he noted that Limassol expects more from the state, in terms of public sector projects, all the more so that even official statistics show Limassol’s share of such is considerably less than for other districts, an element that substantiates and reinforces this expectation.

The official part of the Meeting ended with the awarding of honorary distinction to two companies, Lounic and Muskita, which completed 50 years of uninterrupted presence as Chamber members.
