Neophytos Charalambides took over as Deputy Mayor of Limassol for the next
six months, until the end of the term of the current municipal council, setting
as a goal the completion of the development works co-financed by the EU amounting
to € 22 million in ongoing projects in the western districts. As he stated in
"Entrepreneurial Limassol", he will work in unity within the
Municipal Council, in order to achieve the goals that have been set.
Of the utmost importance for the new deputy mayor is the transformation of
Limassol into a technology center in collaboration with university
institutions, the upgrading of infrastructure and the fight against bureaucracy
in the municipal machine. "My vision" pointed out Neophytos Charalambides
"is the upgrading of the tourist product of Limassol, through the
promotion of alternative forms of tourism, such as gastronomic, sports, walking
and medical".
In addition to the European projects in the western districts, of the
Municipality of Limassol, flood protection works are currently underway, while
the creation of the first environmental neighborhood in Agios Spyridonas will
begin very soon (the contracts have been signed).
The long-awaited renovation of the historic center
of Agia Fyla is expected to begin with the new year, during the term of the
next Municipal Council, despite the fact that the offers have already been
announced. The same applies to the main works of upgrading the sports center of
GSO and the creation in the area of the Museum of Sports History.
The new Municipal Council that will emerge from the municipal elections of
next December, will implement projects planned for years, such as the Carnival
Museum, the second and third phase of reconstruction of Agias Fylaxeos Avenue,
the completion of the connection of the coastal road with Franklin Roosevelt
and the construction of the Evagoras Lanitis Avenue in Ekali.
