New tender process for the Germasogeia bypass

The Public Works Department is proceeding with a new proclamation for tenders, following the withdrawal of the contract for the construction of the Germasogeia bypass. The withdrawal of the contract after the contractor, to whom the construction was granted, received repeated warnings, for not responding to the agreement.

This development, as was to be expected, has greatly concerned the Municipality of Germasogeia, as it involves postponing the project for at least another year. “I recently held a meeting with the relevant Minister,” says Germasogeia Mayor, Kyriakos Xydias, “in order to receive information regarding the progress of the case. It is important for us to proceed with the tendering process as soon as possible.” According to Mr. Xydias, the meeting ended with the promise that the tender would be prepared in the first quarter of 2019, so that a new contract could be awarded within the year.

The new road, which will lead from the roundabout to the Germasogeia dam, aims to discharge the center of the village from unwanted traffic, as well as to facilitate the communication with nearby areas. Apart from the two-lane road for each direction, the project also includes the construction of sidewalks, green lanes, cycling lane, pedestrian crossing points and bus stops.
