Studies to upgrade Lady's Mile beach are expected to be completed by
mid-2022 and by the end of the same year, bids will be announced. This is the
ambitious plan of the Limassol Municipality, which undertook the
maturation of the studies and the management of the project, for which the
consent has been secured by both the British Bases and the environmental
organizations. Its cost, estimated at €7 million, is expected to be covered by
EU and national funds. An application for European funding has already been
submitted, and a commitment from the Ministry of Interior has been secured, for
funding through the state budget.
Project identity
The project includes the construction of a light traffic road,
parking lots, sewerage system, sidewalk - bike path, locker rooms and toilets,
electricity and water supply. The goal, as stated by Mayor Nikos Nikolaidis, is
to improve accessibility and provide basic services to visitors, but with
respect for the environment. For this purpose, the project team of the
Municipality will be supported by expert scientists, who will provide
consulting services at all stages of maturation, which include: the
finalization of the master plan, the preparation of an environmental impact
study and an environment-related due diligence study for submission to the
British Base Environment Department, securing environmental and town planning
permits and approvals, preparation of construction plans and preparation of
tender documents.
Ypsonas municipality role
Also seeking to play a role in the proposed project, is the
Ypsonas municipality, which agreed with the Community Council of Asomatos, to
the joint management of the part of the beach, which administratively belongs
to the community. Besides, as the Mayor Pantelis Georgiou stated to
"Entrepreneurial Limassol", the two local authorities have already
largely merged their services. According to the Lady’s Mile beach plan, two
lifeguard towers will be created and ramps will be provided for the disabled,
as well as toilet facilities. Sunbeds will be increased from 600 to 1,000, with
a price ceiling of €2,5 for renting such, while jobs will be created for
supervision. and beach management and cleanliness.
