Limassol Mayor: Economic development throughout the length and breadth of the city

Impressive projects are planned for this year in Limassol. The development expenditure approved by the Limassol Municipal Council exceeds 29.5 million euro. Talking to ‘’Entrepreneurial Limassol’’ Mayor Nikos Nikolaides pointed out that one fundamental objective of the approved budgets was to spread out development projects in the city's suburbs. Indicatively, more than 20 projects are already under way, or planned to be launched, in 2020 within the Municipality boundaries.

Co-financed
The co-financed projects include the redevelopment of Misiaouli and Kavazoglou street, with a budget of 5 million euro. Work interrupted due to the former contractor's failure in terms of the deliverables, restarted at the end of January, with a timetable for completion in June 2021. The Renaissance Square in the Agipos Antonios district is expected to be delivered to the public by August, following its radical revamping .

Restoration work of the municipal buildings in Misiaouli and Kavazoglou is also in full swing. The first apartment building will have a multifunctional social services center, the second a Child and Adolescent Center and the third a Youth Center. The $4 million project is expected to be completed in April 2021. The Green Walk project along with the project to improve the facades of buildings in the area of Agios Antonios are also in progress and due for completion by June. The extension of the Garylis Linear Park along Pallados, Democracy and Alexandria streets, expending all the way to the Carnagio area is also under construction and due to be completed in April 2021, at a cost of 4 million euro. Work on an Entrepreneurship/Innovation Centre, on Franklin Roosevelt avenue is due to begin in the summer.

Districts/suburbs
In May, bids will be announced to rebuild the centre of Agia Fyla, a project that was to be implemented long before set but was left aside because of the financial crisis. A call for bids was scheduled for early March for a Sports Multifunctional Centre in the same area. Work was also due to begin in March on the construction of sports facilities in the former Turkish-Cypriot neighbourhood in western Limassol, in the area of Agios Ioannis. The first environmental neighbourhood in Zakaki - Omonia, with a budget of €1.2 million, will also be launched in September.
