Agios Tychonas - Yes, but to a new enlarged Municipality

His plans for Agios Tychonas and his vision for the future of the community, were analyzed to "Entrepreneurial Limassol" by the head of the Community Council Pambos Ioannou. Referring to the issue of local government reform that provides for the inclusion of the community in the enlarged Municipality based in Germasogeia, Mr. Ioannou clarifies that the Community Council does not object, given that a referendum will be held to take into account the views of residents.

A long-standing expectation of Agios Tychonas is for the implementing the of management plan for upgrading the archaeological site of Amathus, which is ready from the end of 2016. The highly ambitious plan provides for the creation of a visitor center-local museum, placement of explanatory signs, new ticket office, route networks, protective canopies, refreshment room and parking lot. The upgrade of the ancient port of Amathus, includes maintenance and diving routes, but no docks, the construction of which according to the Department of Antiquities would be catastrophic for the ancient remains.

In addition, the community expects the continuation of the restoration of the temple of Aphrodite on the Acropolis of Amathus, which started from the French School of Athens, but was stopped after the intervention of the Department of Antiquities. Pambos Ioannou said work should proceed, especially that a financier has been found ready to bear all costs. The project of bypassing Amathus with the relocation of the coastal road north of the Acropolis remains suspended, despite the fact that, as the mayor stated, the construction plans are ready. "The project" according to Pambos Ioannou "has been suspended, something to which we objected".

Funds are also requested for the completion of repair works on the coastal sidewalk that was destroyed by storm seas in the winter, as a part of it near the Ladas tavern remains damaged to this day. As for the core of the community, plans for the restoration of the old olive mill are in progress, which after actions of the community will be declared preserved. Once that is done, tenders will be invited for the project.  Among the priorities of the community council is the reconstruction of the main road leading to the center of the community, a project that will be accompanied by the construction of sidewalks and a bicycle path. The construction plans, said Pambos Ioannou, are ready and we are waiting for the approval of this important urban project.
