Greater Limassol mayors answer key questions - Kyriakos Xydias: Yermasogia in 2020

The Mayor of Yermasogia provides answers to the questions of «Entrepreneurial Limassol», regarding issues on the Municipality’s agenda and the initiatives taken to address matters of interest to individuals and enterprises.

Bypass: The project may once again be before the Tender Review Authority following an appeal by one of the bidders, but we hope that by April we will have a contractor to resume work. The time frame for completion of the project is 20 months.

New Municipal Hall New Municipal Hall: The building of the former Yermasogia Cooperative Credit Company, having gone through a radical renovation and landscaping is ready to become the new town hall. The only outstanding issue is securing the modified planning permission for change of use.

New Regional Municipality in eastern Limassol: We are waiting for the bill to come into effect paving the way for the implementation of plans to uinify services and draft organizational charts.

Multipurpose Centre: The Council of Ministers has approved the concession of the old primary school for the creation of a Multipurpose Centre. The matter will be brought before the municipal council shortly with a view to beginning, as soon as possible, restoration work on the historic building.

Dasoudi (forest area): The government is said to be prepared to cede control to the municipality. We are committed to that and we are always prepared to engage in talks with the government to settle all outstanding issues and settle a question that has been pending for decades.

High Rise Buildings: The number of such is not as big as might be imagined. At this point in time there is before the municipality just one application for permit and this refers to a 10-story building in the vicinity of Papas supermarket. Having said that, the Municipality is not taking the whole issue light-heartedly and we have concerns as to future use and administration of such buildings.

Projects to combat flooding: Patra street is included in the first contract of the Limassol Sewerage Board which came up for bidding in January At the same time we have received assurances from the Water Development Department the the lower bridge of Potamia Road to Mouttayiaka, which experienced flooding recently, will be replaced with a higher bridge.

Seaside Pedestrian Pathway: Following an agreement with the Ministry of the Interior, the Municipality has launched a tender for the construction of the seafront pedestrian pathway from the Crowne Plaza Hotel to the Miramare Hotel, with a view to expediting matters and preventing further delay in starting of the project. Within the first quarter of the year we expect to receive the construction plans from the Town Planning Department and by the end of 2020, we will be able to launch a tender for the construction work.
