Troodos Area Development Projects - Gastronomy School at Moniatis

A culinary school will be set up at Moniatis village in the coming years, with the aim of leveraging local products and thus creating new jobs for the region. The cost of the project is estimated at €600,000 and will be built on land leased by the state. The announcement was made by Mountain Communities Development Commissioner Costas Hambiaouris after a meeting at his offices in Trimiklini with Deputy Minister Savvas Perdios. The meeting reviewed all the development schemes planned in the framework of the National Strategy for the Development of the Troodos Mountain communities, including implementation timetables. 

Among the actions provided for under the 10-year strategy, (with a total budget of €250 million), is the of the Troodos are hospital in Kyperounta hospital, strengthening childcare and education structures for preschool children, with the creation of three nursery schools in different communities,  the Troodos Agricultural School as well as the creation of an e-learning structure for students from mountain communities, the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage by the establishment of a mountain culture institution, the energy and morphological upgrading of housing, the connection of communities by a bus network, the strengthening of Police and Fire infrastructures and the management of solid and liquid waste. Other plans include the following:

• Maintenance and renovation of the 53 government-owned Troodos residences, the Presidential Residence complex, the Youth Hostel, the Police Station, the Post Office and the adjacent related residence, the office and warehouses of the Department of Public Works
• Construction of a bypass road from Pelendri to Potamitissa (€2.650.000)
• Rebuilding of the traditional Apeshia Centre – Phase B (€1,500,000)
• Revamping of the Pelendri Central Square – Phase A (€1.200.000)
• Revamping/reorganization of the Pelendri Holy Cross Square – Phase B (€1.300.000)
• Rebuilding of the traditional Arsos centre – Phase B (€475.000)
• Rebuilding of Kyperounta’s designated old neighbourhood and building a cultural centre (€1.550.000)
