West Limassol sewerage treatment plant on course

The West Limassol Wastewater Treatment Plant in Polemidia will be ready on time by the summer of 2021. This assurance was given to ‘’Entrepreneurial Limassol’’ by the General Manager of the Limassol Sewerage Board Iakovos Papaiakovou, who added that the President of the Republic will lay the foundation stone on March 7, for a project that is expected to provide a definitive  solution to the problem of waste water management in Limassol. Construction work started last summer is in full swing, although a new obstacle is the appeal brought before the Tenders Review Authority by a bidder who was excluded from the tender for the construction of the pumping station in the port area, which is necessary for the operation of the treatment plant.

Mr. Papaiakovou was confident, however, that any problem that might arise therefrom, will be only temporary and will affect the Zakaki area and the major development projects planned in the area until the end of 2021, that is six months after the planned launch of the plant. According to what is known so far, by that time the pumping station serving the area will be fully operational.  Work on the pumping is expected to begin in June and be completed in 18 months, by the end of 2021. The construction of the plant will also contribute to the decongestion of the sewage system main pipe, which carries more than ten thousand cubic meters of sewage from the western areas to the Moni station, a distance of some twenty kilometres.
