There is still a long way to go until Limassol communities can be turned into rural municipalities, as this parameter is not included in the Interior Ministry priorities. An overview of the future image of the rural municipalities of Limassol is given by a study prepared by PWC on behalf of the Union of Cyprus Communities, which ponders the possibility of setting up, if and when decided, nine rural municipalities, each one of which bringing together several communities.
Talking to ‘’Entrepreneurial Limassol, the Head of the Union of Limassol Communities Lefteris Pericli, referred to the study findings and expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that communities are in the dark about the draft law on local government reform. He added that a meeting will be sought with the Interior Minister to discuss the matter. As for objections by communities that are scheduled to merge with municipalities, Mr Pericli said that "we do not say no to communities joining municipalities, provided that this will be preceded by referendums and not be enforced.
