A new face for Ypsonas - Radical Revamping for the Fastest Growing Municipality of Cyprus

Ypsonas municipality, the fastest-growing nationwide which is forecast host about 8,000 new residents over the next decade, is in for a completely new look will be in the coming years. After the renovation of Makarios Avenue, the Municipality is going ahead with the ambitious task grand task of rebuilding the historic centre, work that is expected to get under way beginning early in the new year 2020. The redevelopment will focus on the new central square that will be created in place of the existing parking lot and bear the name of the late famous composer Marios Tokas, as well as the construction of a 200-seat municipal amphitheater with a footbridge linking the site with its courtyard of Chrysopolitissa Church.

The hallmark of the square will be a four-arched structure, which will serve as a meeting point for visitors. The second phase involves the creation of a complex consisting of a museum, a cultural center (part of which at a restored traditional building) and dining areas. The complex will be surrounded by two squares and sidewalks completed with one-way streets and cobblestones placed in the church courtyard, in addition to facade restoration. The aim, as Mayor Pantelis Georgiou told Entrepreneurial Limassol, is for Ypsonas to have a true landmark, a central square that is currently missing from the municipality. The square, he stressed, will increase the area's marketability through incentives to attract leisure and catering businesses, so that residents and visitors can have a place where they can gather and enjoy themselves throughout the day.
