German Ambassador visits Limassol Chamber

The new German Ambassador to Cyprus, Franz-Jozef Kremp, paid a visit to the Limassol Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) and held a meeting with LCCI President Costas Galatariotis. Pointing out that he was visiting Limassol for the first time, the German diplomat expressed interest in the issues that are currently on the agenda of the Chamber and of the Limassol business community.

The LCCI President noted that the Cyprus economy was on a steady course of recovery after the climax of the economic crisis in 2013, but this should not - under any circumstances - lead to any sort of complacency. He singled out the notable improvement in the construction industry, which is especially visible in the Limassol area, as well as the substantial increase in tourist arrivals, whereas improvement in the overall commercial sector is comparatively moderate.

Referring to the Limassol port in the wake of its recent commercialization, Costas Galatariotis pointed out the substantially increased efficiency that is already visible and the fact that the processing of freight is now faster than ever before. He added, however, that the high fees that came about constitute a reason for serious concern for the Chambers and their members and concerted efforts are still under way to try to lessen the problem as much as possible.

Regarding upcoming new projects in Limassol, the LCCI President made special reference to the casino-resort, to be built in western Limassol, which is expected to be highly beneficial for Cyprus, both in terms of enriching our tourist product and also in terms of supporting employment as it will open a sizeable number of new job opportunities.
